The Intensive
Mentoring Program is for juveniles who have appeared
previously in court or are close to being placed in an
out-of-home placement facility. The youth are referred
by District Court Judge, Social Service Agencies and the
schools.
The Intensive Mentors spend up to
32 hours per month with a youth, working closely with
the youth, focusing on behaviors, random curfew checks,
educational concerns, parent/child conflicet and
Positive recreational activities. The Mentors also work
closely with the Juvenile Probation Officer or referral
agent.
In both programs, the Mentors, the
youth, the youth's parents along with the referring
agent work together as a team, providing for the best
interests of the youth. All parties sign a contract
agreeing to participate in the program.
The Mentors contact the youth's
school to assist with any educational needs the youth
may have, and receive copies of grants and attendance
records. The student with the highest grade point
average at the end of each grading period is eligible to
receive a $50.00 savings bond. Any student with the
most improved grand point average at the end of the
school year will receive at $100.00 savings bond.
